What does the Advanced Certification Program
 in Commercial and Asset Finance cover?

The Advanced Program is split into two components.

Component One
This part of the program is highly engaging, and the content delivered to Brokers in plain English, using real life case studies, surrounding:

  • Commercial lending skills
  • Mastering cash flow
  • Business credit writing

Our highly qualified course trainers help you understand how to:

  • read financial statements intrinsically
  • understand what ratios are really telling us in our assessment
  • measure financial performance
  • build and sensitise a cash flow forecast
  • understand the critical relationship between sales, profits, and cash
  • calculate risk grades and why they are important components of a files assessment
  • complete a credit proposal from front to back, and
  • manage the post approval process efficiently and effectively.

Our team will work with you to help your business proficiency and ultimately, it's profitability.

Component Two 
This part of the program is run by our approved registered training organisations and the content focuses on product and obligations.
The product content focuses on advantaged business finance including:

  • Commercial property finance
  • Development finance
  • Commercial asset and equipment finance
  • Agri finance
  • Small business finance
  • Cash flow finance
  • Peer to peer lending
  • Advanced personal finance (personal loans and associated products)
  • Mixed purpose borrowing
  • International trade finance
  • Escrow
  • International money transfers, and
  • Limited recourse borrowing arrangements

The obligations content covers:

  • Ethics surrounding advice
  • Best interest duty
  • Core issues surrounding mixed purpose lending connecting non-coded and coded loans.

Finally, component two covers mentoring and sponsorship, critical to future development.


The CFMIA has spent many years working with hundreds of our industry professionals, education specialists and hard-working Australian Brokers to develop this program.

The CFMIA does not expect that all Brokers to apply for certification.

Only the most dedicated and focussed Brokers, in our opinion, will qualify to uphold the standards that they will bring to the Australian finance sector.
